Rendering Text?
Hello There,
Strange problem here… hopefully not strange to someone out there! I’m all of a sudden – in the middle of editing on the same sequence – having to render my text? It happened suddenly without me changing any sequence or clip settings. This leads me to believe it might be the hardware…
I’m working on DV on an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo. 2 gigs of Ram… latest FCP and the external I’m rendering to is a 1Tera MyBook…I’ve tried different sequences / match framing etc nothing works…
Any ideas of what the problem could be?

If you have a LOT of text generators or still images in a sequence, at some point in the sequence they may stop playing in real time.
It happens because FCP stores all the images in RAM – the setting is in System Settings > Memory & Cache > Still Cache. You could try increasing the memory reserved for Still Cache but be aware that it might have an impact on other real time performance.

Thanks for getting back to me,
So even if the titles arn’t piled up on top of eachother but used a lot down the timeline, Does this causes the same effect as if they were piled on?We are busy subtitling so there is only one layer of footage, one png file and one normal text layer on top of that…
My timeline is only 11 minutes long but every clip has a title on it. Is this where the problem is coming from?

AFAIK, it’s just the number of still images or generators in the sequence, rather than whether they’re stacked or on the same track.
If you switch to Unlimited RT then it’s not really a problem. An 11 min won’t take very long to render for something as simple as text.
