  • Rendering – takes twice the space on HD

It is imperative that you render projects to a drive that has twice the amount of free space because Vegas unfortunately makes two copies of the file. It renders to a temp file and then copies that to the final file. This is why it requires twice the disk space because it does this on the render drive.

This may account for error messages when rendering as you might think you have enough space to create your project render when actually you may not.

Thanks to John Rofrano for this bit of information which I didn’t realize.

You’re welcome Roger. It’s important to point out that this is the behavior for QuickTime renders which Roger was doing. Vegas may not need double the space for all render types but for QuickTime, it writes to a .mov.tmp file and then copies that to a .mov file requiring twice the space for the render.
