  • Rendering Sony AVCHD files – quick question

Posted by Andy Abulafia on October 26, 2015 at 4:41 pm

Hi everyone, I have a very simple question regarding rendering and use of the template correctly.

    (Most of my) Source files:
    Sony 60p AVCHD m2ts files

Project Template: I set to Match Settings (double NTSC, field order None, etc)

    Render As: Mainconcept 1920×1080 25mbps

Would this be the best way to render for Blu-ray?

    thank you!

So again: please forgive me another silly question

Why bother setting the TEMPLATE to match the file settings (60fps, no interlace etc)

Why NOT just render to the desired specification? (60i, etc)

    🙂

Excellent questions. Setting the project to match the media will give you the best playback performance. This is why most people suggest this. If you are rendering to the same format you are all set. if, however, you are rendering to a different format, then you might get surprises when you render.

If you set your project to match your render settings, Vegas Pro will conform your source media on-the-fly during playback which might cause some performance problems but you will see exactly what will be rendered.

In your case, by setting your project to 60i you might catch problems like ghosting when Vegas Pro converts 60p to 60i which you can fix by Disabling Resample on your 60p Events, before you render.
