Rendering short films in a PAL country 25p or 24p?
Hi, first of all (considering this is my first post) i’d like to take a second to thank this community, as these forums have often been a life saver (mostly at 3 o’clock in the morning with deadlines steadily creeping) so for that, you all have my thanks.
My question seems pretty straight forward, but its something that has been bugging me for a while: Basically being in Australia (PAL) my camera shoots at 25p, (The original source footage being 25p, 24mb/s, AVCHD) for my last projects I’ve been editing my footage in Vegas pro and rendering to the mpeg 2 blu-ray 24p template (with added audio stream).
This has worked ok so far, although now looking back, I’m beginning to see differences between my render and the source footage, especially in shots with lots of movement such as panning where basically the image almost seems like a series of overlapping frames?
Basically it comes down to the question should I try and maintain the 25p frame rate? or would it be best to perhaps conform my clips to 23.976fps before editing? considering they will eventually have to either be burnt to a DVD or Blu Ray. I’m really wondering what output other people are choosing when rendering a project of 25p source footage?
Thanks,
Sam.
