Rendering settings – Confused!
To anyone who can help me, PLEASE DO SO!!! This rendering setting thing is confusing me a great deal. I have several topics I need to hit on, so I’ll post things one subject at a time, wait for some awnsers, and then add my next questions…
First, PC Specs:
-AMD Athlon 64×2 Dual Core 5000+ Processor
-Windows XP Pro – 32bit – Looking at upgrading to Windows 7 32
-3 SATA 3GB/s Hard drives – 1 for OS and workstations, 2 500 gigs for capturing, editing, rendering, ect
-3 gigs DDR2 ram
-Gigabyte S-Series GA-MA69G-S3H Motherboard w/ on-board ATI Radeon graphics card; HDMI/Blu Ray readySo, here is the first part of my situation. I started doing SD editing and DVD creating in 2004 using Pinnacle Studio. I jumped into a more proffesional setup a couple years back using Sony Vegas/DVD Architech, and are now starting to do HD editing. I have not put together a full-bore project yet, just some simple tests and short dvd test runs and what not, trying to learn as I go along. I have been adding gear a piece at a time, and I now have a Black Magic Intensity Card on the way along with a second video monitor with 1080p HDMI input to watch my work on (for color correcting and full HD viewing while editing).
I have a Cannon HV-30 HD video camera. I have been capturing via Firewire so far and get the mt2 files. I am waiting on my Black Magic Intensity Pro card to come in though. First question is, with Firewire, there is still some DV codec compression added to the HD video file when its captured via firewire cable, correct? And if so, what if I capture through HDMI on the Black Magic card? Does anyone know the compression options for it? Are the compressions from the HDMI as bad as the DC compression, or does the video look better/Less compressed? I can’t capture 100% un-compressed footage, because I don’t have a RAID setup with multiple drives and what not yet, nor do I wanna deal with the large amounts of drive space I need for simple 1 hour un-compressed HD sets.
I basicaly, get the file properties of the video figured out (witch with my HV30 is usualy 1080i at 1440×1080 and make the Vegas project properties match. For the other portions of the project properties, I get confused. I am not doing Blu Ray DVDs yet, so for regular DVDs, what should I do? In the Vegas Project settings, here is how I usualy setup the project for the actul editing process when working with my HC30 footage:
For Field order, I use progressive scan. 1.333 for pixel aspect ratio, deinterlacing method I interpolate, and I pick BEST for rending quality. Is there anything wrong so far?
Now when the project is done, I am very confused on what settings I should use to make files ready for DVD Architech. I would like to have the footage as highest quality as possible, and maybe get away with upscaling if I put the DVD into a DVD playing (like an Xbox 360 with HDMI connection or an upscale DVD player).
This is the topic I will start with… any help would be fantastic.
Thanks in Advance.
