I’m using a Mac, my client is asking for a WMV mpeg 4 file for his website,

I was told i can’t render to this in FCP and to use After Effects, which i am using version 7 pro,

I can’t find it in the output module of the render queue, but i can see it in the export function. When i use this, the file that it makes is a quicktime file compressed using WMV, isn’t this still a QT file as it has the QT picture on my desktop.

how do i get a WMV file?

your best bet would be to invest in Squeeze! It does an excellent job!

You’ll need a 3rd party tool in order to output WMVs on the Mac. Here’s one, Flip4Mac.

You’ll also want to output to WMV9 and not WMV MPEG4 (this one’s a legacy CODEC that never made it to first base). I’m not even sure if it’s available as an option these days.

And stay away from AVC1 if you want good quality stuff with pretty good copatibility across Media Players. Best to also check on datarate/bandwidth requirements from your client.

    hi Guys,

    Thanks for your posts,

If you didn’t know, you can output WMV files from After effects 7, it’s just that when you see the icon for the file on a mac it still looks like a quicktime file but if you move that to a PC then it looks like a WMV file.

I also have sorenson squeeze and will give that a go and compare the quaility between to 2,

    thanks
