Rendering Problem with 5D mkii footage in FCP

I’m editing footage shot on a 5dmkii and am having to render for every filter and even opacity changes. For instance, an opacity change on a 3 minute clip will take over a minute. I ingested the footage via Log and Transfer using the Canon EOS movie plugin. I set the preferences for ProRes 422. This sounds to me alike a disparity between the clip settings and the sequence settings. But I can’t find the culprit. Here are the settings:

SEQUENCE SETTINGS:

Frame Size: 1920 x 1080
Aspect Ratio: HDTV 1080i (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
Anamorphic 16:9: unchecked
Field Dominance: None
Editing Timebase: 23.98

QuickTime Video Settings –
Compressor Appel RoRes 422
Quality: 100%

Audio:
Rate: 48 kHz
Depth: 24-bit
Conifg: Channel grouped

MY CLIP SETTING IN THE BROWSER:

Audio: 2 Mono
Frame Size: 1920 x 1080
Vid Rate: 23.98
Compressor: Apple ProRes 422
Data Rate: 13.0 (to 13.5)
Aud Rate: 48kHz
Aud Format: 16-bit integer

I’m running FCP 7 on a 12-core mac pro. I notice the Sequence Settings set Audio at 24 bit depth. Don’t know why. But changing that to 16 does not help. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Whenever you add a filter FCP still needs to render. If your render bar is red, set your render settings to Unlimited RT and playback Dynamic.

Create a new sequence. Drag on clip into the new timeline and when FCP asks to change sequence settings to match the clip say yes. Then compare the sequence settings to your original sequence to discover what is different. If there is no difference then you have the optimal match between footage and codec.

If you have red render with something as simple as an opacity change, then it is likely as Steve says to be playback settings

Michael and Steve,

I’ve been out of town (still am) and must have neglected to set my Cow settings to alert me to replies.

Michael, yes, I did make a new sequence and put a clip in and said “yes” to change the settings (actually, a number of times). No help. All settings still the same. Same rendering issue.

Steve, when I get back in town tonight, I’ll try changing to untlimited RT it it’s not already. I now playback is dynamic.

Hi Robert,

Have you found a solution yet? I am having a similar problem. In my case, I have to render every clip that’s dragged onto the timeline, and I’m not being asked to match the clip settings to the original.

Hoping you figured something out. Thanks…
