  • Rendering problem regarding Transitions and FPS?

Posted by Anthony Regar on August 9, 2016 at 12:37 am

I have an issue with Vegas where when I render a project using a Transition (Usually a BCC Preset Transition) the transition will be very off and distorted and quick, but isn’t like that in the preview. This ONLY occurs when I render the project in a lower FPS than the project is itself, such as my project being in 60fps and I render it in 30fps. I cannot change the project FPS as it will ruin my project, so what must I do to correct this? This is a problem i’ve always had using transitions, not just this singular project. And if it’s relevant, crossfades render completely fine.

If you don’t want any surprises when rendering you should set your project properties to match your render properties. It’s really that simple. There is no way around this. It’s a math problem. If you are cutting a 1 second transition at 60 fps and then to render to 30 fps you will only get 1/2 of the frames and it won’t look the same. Don’t do it.

It’s not that cut and dry, although I wish it was.
For starters, my project is in 600fps. So I can’t exactly render it in 600fps, too.
This problem happens with any amount of difference in FPS, and it shouldn’t. The project settings match perfectly, with the only exception of the FPS, and this has been no problem for anybody else, I’ve confirmed with others who can use the exact transitions I am and render in a smaller FPS without any issue. I render preview the project in 30fps, and the transition looks completely smooth and fine, but once I render it is not just missing, say, half the frames when I go from 60 to 30, but the timing is completely wrong, the effect is very sharp and over quick. It’s not just the same effect missing half of the frames.

Two very simple things you might try–disable GPU and also disable resampling for those events. Might not make a difference, but seems worth a try.

Thanks for the reply, I already disable resample, and have GPU disabled. Should I try enabling it?

You could try, but I doubt it would make a difference.

Any suggestions on what I could do? I’ve already re-installed vegas.

Is it only the BCC transitions? Do Sony transitions have the same problem. It could just be that the BCC transition isn’t handling the difference in FPS correctly. Like I said, if you are delivering in 30fps your project should be set to 30 fps and all of you edits should be timed for 30 fps. It doesn’t matter what fps your source is. The project and render should match for the best results.
