Rendering out with embedded alpha on selected assets
A client has asked me to render out a project which contains video and still images. We don’t have the video yet, so he wants me to put placeholders in and render out a movie with the alpha corresponding to the placeholders only so he can drop them in in Final Cut. How can I do this? I know I can render out the mov with the alpha, but how do I tell AE I only need certain items to be included on the alpha?
These need to punch a hole in the movie I suppose, but I can’t find out how to do this.
Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like you need to split up your compositions to generate multiple mattes. As I understand it, your graphics themselves are not touched by this, your client just needs some travelling mattes to use in his editing system.

I was hoping to embed the alpha in the final output movie.
I thought about splitting the comps up, but that’s going to add to the final timescale, which is a right pain.
Is there no way of flagging an item to be rendered in the alpha channel a bit like the object buffers in Cinema 4D?

How about hiding the stuff you don’t want and generating a matte render. Then you reimport the matte and use it as a track matte for the entrie movie, and render with alpha, set to straight.
I haven’t tried it …
