    rendering out large files in mpeg-2

    Dear consortium of fantastic AE life savers –

    a question re: Mpeg-2 and size.
    I need to render out a giant 3200 x 1800 sequence in mepg-2 and noticed that there is a limit in the Media Encoder, I believe 1920 (full HD).
    Is there any way to bypass that?

    To my biggest surprise I now realized that CS5 has the mpeg-2 already natively integrated in AE although not sure if thats the same mpeg-2 as inMedia Encoder (for sure I am not talking DVD mpeg-2 here)
    Is are both the same, PC-happy mpeg-2 that plays on all PCs? (I am a Mac btw no way to test)

    However, also in AE no chance to render out 3200 x 1800.

    Any other software that support this giant size?

    I’m not sure that this size will be possible, but I’ve used Episode 5 (not 6) and ffmpeg to encode non-standard MPEG-2 in the past.

    But what will the playback device be? Are you sure that you need to deliver a single file? Large displays like this are frequently pre-split — and this one looks like a 4×3 array of 800×600 displays.

    Thanks Walter,

    it’s a 25 monitor video wall run from a Hippo/Criter array w/ 25 channels each 720 p, altogether max rez is 6400 x 3600 I am already delivering 1/2 res…
    Will look into the good old ffmpg …

    Good luck. I’d think that delivering pre-split files for the media servers would be more reliable, but if you get this working, please let me know — I’d love to hear about your workflow. Thanks!
