Hi! I’m using Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 and my camera is the Canon Legria HF 200 HD camcoder. I use both 25p and 50i. I want to edit my HD videos and upload my them into YouTube. Everything works fine until it comes to rendering. When I edit my .mts videos, they look nice, but when I render them, they go choppy. Then when you stop at any point where the camera or the object moves, it doesn’t look nice and it’s terrible to watch. You can see it in my video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulewxfXSPYM
I render my videos in WMV, 1920 x 1080, Mode: quality VBR, framerate: 25,00 PAL. I have tried changing the format, framerate and others and it’s always the same choppy video.
So, if anyone could tell me what setting to use exactly when rendering .mts files, I would be really grateful.

I can’t say for certain, but it looks like a normal frame rate conversion and interlacing “issue”. One comment, however, is that I wouldn’t worry about what the video looks like on a still frame. Smooth playing video (and even film) often looks blurred when you look at individual frames. In fact, if you clear those individual still frames up so they are sharp and clear, the video will become MORE choppy, so it might be impossible to fix choppy video vs. blurry stills. (more on interlacing, including a video demo here “The Joy of Interlacing“)

Now, besides getting the right settings, one thing you can try and see if you like it: right-click a clip and select Properties and select “Disable resample”. If you are having frame rate conversion problems, this will clear it up as far as the stills go. Again, this’ll make the video more choppy, but it’s your call on whether you like it or not.

The right settings are the ones that match your source footage and, if you are lucky, your distribution format. I haven’t kept up with what YouTube’s “native” HD format is, but 1280×720, 24 fps, progressive (i.e., 720p24) is how I’ve been working for a while now.

Perhaps it sounds ridiculous, but the best thing
that young filmmakers should do is to get hold of a camera
and some film and make a movie of any kind at all.

Thanks for responding. You should check the video at YouTube, there you can see my problem mutch better. Go to YouTube and search for “antsupop” and click the video called “Make A Move”.
I asked you to stop at any point in the video bacause there you can see my problem better, but it’s the same in the whole video. For example, when moving the camera, you can see some ledge of a wall twice, like to lines instead of one. I have been usind the correct settings that match my videos but it s still doesen’t work. If just somebody had the same camera or almost the same and would tell me exactly what settings to use when rendering. Sorry if you can’t understand me, I’m not that good at english.

    For youtube I should use:

    Project property: Template HDV720-25p
    Render as MP4 – 1280×720 – 5mbs

Your youtube video is as good as you get it.
It’s important to pan slow due to downscale of bitrate at youtube.

Yyou said you saw two lines at one time, that sounds like a field order problem, if you shot your footage in progressive mode when you render down go to the custom tab then in you video tab choose the field order to progressive scan, that will take care of your 2 line issues
