    Hello,
Dual 2.5Ghz G5, latest versions of AE, QT, ATI x800, 4 Gb RAM.
I’m getting the spinning beachball during the render of a 544 frame movie with all elements properly organized and precomped. No message, just the big stall. I changed the ‘secret’ purge setting to 15, kept openGL off, and have maintained the project in a neat and tidy fashion in preparation for a smooth render. A couple of questions about AE’s render process: Is deleting pref’s an acceptable thing to do? I’ve done it in FCP for years, but am not sure of the ramifications. Also, I backup about 5x per day, so there are a lot of earlier versions of the project. Is it common for previous versions (w/autosaves) to cause problems? Lastly, is a 3rd party program (i.e gridiron) a necessity for AE to render effectively, or is it a solid render engine on its own?
    Many thanks,

    Ken
