Rendering in HD
Posted by Ben Hawkins on March 22, 2008 at 9:25 pmWhat would be the best choice for Rendering in HD that is NOT Mpeg 4.
I’m just sort of entering the HD world and I feel that im losing a lot of quality when I render in my Standard uncompressed DV settings. My footage is 720p DVCPRO
Thanks

March 23, 2008 at 1:33 pm“Uncompressed DV” is an oxymoron. DV is highly compressed, and yes, looks like crap. Relatively.
Regarding the codec to use, it depends on what will happen to the file you are rendering. What will you do with it afterward? Use in an NLE? Go to tape? Recompress to DVD?

March 23, 2008 at 3:07 pmHi,
Is there any problem in rendering to DVCPro HD? When I have supplied animations that have needed to cut into a project done in DVCPro, I have rendered in that codec and have gotten good looking results. I have found it to be a pretty good codec for high compression with little artifacting.
I usually try to render to the codec that the editor is working in. If the shot needs to cut into an Uncompressed 4:2:2 timeline, that’s what I’ll render to. If it is DV, I’ll usually render to Animation codec since DV looks bad no matter what you do. But DVCPro generally looks pretty good.

March 24, 2008 at 3:57 pmThis will be going online flash video for a website I work for.
And yes, I know the quality doesn’t have to be 100% HD when putting on as a flash video, with all the quality loss, size issues, and such.
But, I have worked with other peoples footage in HD to get it ready for there website and compressed them to a flv file and it looked great! Im just stuck on getting the video from After Effects to come out looking awesome.
So any help will be awesomeI got the hottest beats and the softest fur.
