Anyone have any idea why I have to render premiere so much on my new system. I have premiere CS4 on a Mac Pro 2x 2.93 ghz quad core with 16 gb of ram and a ATI Radeon HD 4870 card. I edit in xd cam ex and bring the files directly in as mp4. I used to edit on a pc with Premiere ex3 and matrox axio. I would convert my files to mxf and make a matrox ntsc project. Most of the effects I would use where matrox. The point is I did not have to render that often and now any effect requires me to render. Is this because of matrox? (which i cannot get on a mac)Kind of thought I was upgrading with the Mac. Any advice? Thanks.

Yep Matrox was taking on the FX processing and so you didn’t need to render them. No Matrox the CPU needs to do it, to get RT it will need to render. Sorry you went to “up” to Mac and went “down” in productivity. FCP needs to render everything too so you’re not going to have much luck with a Mac.

Oh well. You don’t happen to know of any third party software that would help the processing for CS4 on a mac do you? Thanks.

As I sit watching my FCP system render using XD Cam material…
Which I kid you not…I am doing while I write this…

I think fondly of my times on Matrox & PPro on the PC….

    so much faster.

    I don’t miss the RAM issues though… now 64 bit & Axio LE…woo hoo
