Rendering HD/MTS file with VEGAS
Hello, this is my first post.
I have a few MTS video files captured by my Sony SR5 HD camera. I am using VEGAS 8.1. I have been testing in order to get the best output for producing a DVD for LCD/TV viewing.
The best one that I could fine was to render the videos placed in VEGAS timeline as AVI HDV 1080-50i. When burning a DVD and playing the videos on my TV, I feel the quality is more than acceptable, and it leaves no black spaces neither on top or bottom, and nor on left or right. It appears as a FULL screen.
However, to get to that, first of all, rendering is slow. maybe 2 minutes for a 15-second clip, and about 1 hour for a 13-minute clip.
Secondly, the file size is horrible. an 83-second clip occupies 8GB (does not even fit on a data DVD 4.77GB) for archive!!
I am using HP – AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ 2.70 GHZ and a 3GB RAM and a 500 MB HDD.
Please advise how to best output an MTS file after loading it in VEGAS to a DVD that plays superb picture.

….Of course you will get that if you are rendering your output
in AVI-HDV. You need to render using the mpeg2 format for your DVD’s
then select your desired template below that.Steve Rhoden

Thank you for responding very quickly.
I have always overruled this option thinking it was limited to 4:3, because I tested it once. Now that you mentioned it again, Iwent there, and selected:
MPEG –> DVD PAL –> and clicked CUSTOM
there I selected Video Quality = BEST, and on the next TAB, I found the 3 video formats: 4:3, 16:9 and 2.21:1I selected the 16:9 and rendered the video.
Now, for 105-second video clip, I get a 90MB Mpeg file 🙂
I have burned a DVD with it, and displayed it on my TV using a desktop DVD player. Awaesome! 🙂Now, I need to ask this:
In the near future, I intend to invest in a Blue-Ray Writer Drive and a Desktop HD DVD player.
Do I just need to backup the .MTS files along with my VEGAS project to re-create/render the files in HD format? Can I safely delete the actual files from my HD-FULL camcorder to make space for my next trip now that I have the .MTS files?
