  • rendering HD framesets to avid 10-bit

    Hi,

I have a quick convert job, to take 1000fps HD res .tif sequences from a high speed camera (arri NAC) and convert them to avid clips for an editor. I want to output them to a 10-bit file, however when I select ‘avid meridien uncompressed’ in the render dialog, I can only choose millions for my colors (I have my project set to 16-bit). Do I not have the right avid codec? I downloaded whatever the standard set is of avid SD codecs… I’m assuming there is a 10-bit avid SD codec, right?

Or would it be better to render to something else, like FCP 10 bit 4:2:2 and let them convert it and sort it out on the avid end? Or animation?

In any case, the goal here to is render out SD files that are uncompressed and full color bandwidth so that they can use them to do a tape-to-tape color correct when they are done with the whole piece and not have to go back to the original HD sequences. Any advice is welcome.

    thanks!

AFAIK, the Avid Meridien CODEC is 8-bit. You’ll need their HD CODEC for 10-bit.
