Rendering from AE to FCP in Apple 10 bits: text looks jaggy (crosspost)
Posted by Itamar Kool on September 19, 2008 at 1:53 pmI do this job in AE PAL 16:9. I look at the text on my video monitor in AE and it is clean. I render in Apple 10 bits uncompressed and import the clip in FCP and it looks jaggy. So what’s up??

September 19, 2008 at 2:35 pmHi Itamar,
I guess you exported Upper First and your FC is the same field order.
Check the browser to see if FC have properly recognized your AE clip field order.
if you are repositioning the AE clip in the FC sequence you need to offset the center vertically always in an even numver of pixels. If you set odd numbers you will have interlacing problems.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

September 19, 2008 at 3:27 pmHi Rafael, All the settings seem OK. I did not move it. When I play the clip not in the timeline, I see the same thing…

September 19, 2008 at 3:56 pmHi Rafael, Just tried the ‘sheer’ codec in 4:4:4. Now it looks OK when I play it. Get’s jaggy when I stop, but that is to be expected, I guess.
I think this sheer codec is really OK!Kool En De Anderen

September 19, 2008 at 4:22 pmReally good. Now I make very little things, but I use it for all the exports from AE, Motion etc. The 10b Alpha channel makes a big difference.
I wish Color would support it for exporting. Some time.
Cheers,

September 19, 2008 at 4:34 pmIs strange that looks bad in Apple 10b. I have used also many times and out of the typical Gamma shifting when passing through RGB, never had problems.

September 19, 2008 at 6:41 pmIs your AE project se to 16bits and are you rendering trillions of colors?

Itamar Kool
September 19, 2008 at 6:47 pmIt’s in 16 bits and NOT in trillions but in millions. Should it be in trillions?

September 19, 2008 at 6:51 pmIt doesn’t have to be, but it’s worth a shot.
Are you sure your aspect ratio is correct?

September 20, 2008 at 8:13 amaspect ratio is ok. checked that several times. I will try trillions of colors later on. Meanwhile I’m happy with sheer or animation.
