Rendering for video downloads
Just been playing around with different rendering settings in Vegas MS 12. Trying to get a reasonable picture without getting to big a file size.
My original file was filmed in avchd 1080/50i and has been converted to cineform avi. Total file size is 60gb for 90mins.
I’ve been rendering 15 mins chunks. Under the Mainconcept AVC setting i find HD720p gives a good compromise at 4000kbps and audio at 96kbps.
File size is 466mb for 15 mins…so the full film would be around 2.8gb.Is that too big for downloads? I was hoping to share these films via dropbox.
The next compromise was going down to 540p at around 2500kbps and likely ending up with a file size of 1.8gb. I am noticing a few artifacts here though.
540p at 5000kbps was bigger in file size than 720p 4000kbps with no improvement.
720p at 3000kps (total film file size 2.1gb) is worse.Bit disconcerting when i see downloads on retail sites at 1gb for 120mins…but i guess they start off with better picture quality and use more sophisticated compression.
