To render HD files to be put on a blue-ray disc, what render do you suggest?
    Would it be the…

    Sony AVC – Blu-ray 1920x1080i 16Mpbs video steam

    or the

    MainConcept MPEG-2 Blu-ray 1920x1080i 25 Mbps video stream

[Roger Bansemer] “To render HD files to be put on a blue-ray disc, what render do you suggest?”

I usually use the format that matches my source. So when I shoot with my Sony HVR-Z1U which is 1440×1080-60i MPEG2, I render to MainConcept MPEG-2 Blu-ray 1440×1080-60i 25 Mbps video stream. If it’s just vacation video that I shot with my Sony HDR-CX12 which is 1920×1080 AVCHD, I render to Sony AVC – Blu-ray 1920×1080-60i 16Mpbs video steam. If you have a mix of both then I guess you flip a coin. 😉

You can get approximately 3 hrs 45 min of AVCHD onto a 25GB Blu-ray disc as apposed to only 2 hrs 15 min of MPEG2 so if you have a long video that won’t fit as MPEG2, then AVCHD is a viable option for MPEG2 source as well.
