SELF CONTAINED MUST BE CHECKED, otherwise you get a Reference movie that can be only played in your computer.
YOU DON”T WANT THAT.

Yes. Everything has been rendered prior to export.

Have done it with SELF-CONTAINED checked on as well but it’s still the same.

Well, it may be a performance issue.
Have you had a look to the “Activity monitor”?
How much CPU is working?
Which Read/Write speed shows your disks?
Where do you have the media files and where is the “Render folder”?
