  • Rendering DV footage on timeline issue

I have a bunch of DV footage that I need to set up and format to a DVD. I have not worked with a DV timeline in years and I ran into a problem with rendering the timeline.

I have one shot that is crooked and I wanted to rotate it to get the horizon line even. When I use the rotate tool and then render the image looks soft. If I look at a still frame on the timeline unrendered it looks fine but once the computer renders the clip it has a soft look to it.

I tried rendering the clip with different filters and it does not seem to affect the sharpness of the image.

Is this a product of DV rendering? The sharpness is affected by motion settings.

How are you viewing/judging the sharpness?
Also, make sure you are doing a FULL render.
Under the Sequence menu – render sequence – see FULL.

You could try changing your sequence settings to DV50 and rendering all.

I am viewing the footage right off the RGB monitor. The sharpness loss is obvious. I could see it as soon as I rendered the clip. I checked all the settings and it the same result no matter what I do.
If I zoom the viewer in to 400% and I can really see the difference in the clips
    Thanks.

Would that be your computer monitor? This is no good and will not yield accurate results.
An external Broadcast monitor is need to truly see your footage as it is.

I can definitely see it on the broadcast monitor. It’s obvious know matter what monitor I view the footage. It’s only happening with the motion settings. I tried a few filters just to see and it not affecting the sharpness of the picture.

I exported a comparison tiff out of FCP and took it into Photoshop just to compare and I definitely see the difference.

    Thanks.
