Rendering DPX on laptop – terrible mistake?
Hello good people,
I’am working on a 40 minutes documentary at the moment, documentary that will have to be rendered and given in dcp file format to the local cinema for promotion. I’am using my personal HP Probook 470 G1 laptop with the following specs:– i3-4000M Processor with 2.4 Ghz
– 4 Gb of RAM
– 500 GB internal storage
– AMD RadeonTM HD8 8750MI’am running Sony Vegas 12 with no problems while editing the video. I still haven’t done some standard color correction and I’am planning to add Neat Video once or twice on parts of the documentary. My question is, is it smart to leave the laptop for a day, or two, rendering the finished project to dpx (plus, there is the process of converting dpx files to dcp – which scares me a lot)?
Or I shouldn’t bother at all and start looking for somebody to render the video for me?
Any tips from people with expertise, experience or more knowledge than me is welcomed and greatly appreciated.Gjore

A Core i3 is a little weak for video rendering. You might want to consider having someone with a desktop computer render for you. Preferably a Core i7.

As long as the laptop doesn’t shutdown from overheating, and you have the time, you can run it as long as you’d like. It should protect itself from any physical harm by shutting down if it overheats.

Your laptop is a little under powered for such a task and for rendering time.
You at least should have more than 4GB of memory installed.
Don’t get me wrong, it can still be done, but you can get thru the entire
process so much faster and easier on a more powerful system.Steve Rhoden (Cow Leader)
