I’m trying to render my clips but don’t have too much disk space. Would people here recommend an external hard drive for this purpose? If so, how do I configure FCP to save automatically to the external drive?
    Cheers.

Go to System Settings in the Final Cut Pro Menu and change your scratch disk preferences to reflect the hard drive you want everything saved to. Change the preferences for your waveform and thumbnail caches to the same drive as well.

Yes. Buy an external hard drive. They cost nothing these days. Since you’re editing without storage right now, it sounds like you’re editing low-bandwidth material, but you should always, always put your media and render files in a different location than your internal drive with your OS, and you should never let a drive get past 85% capacity.
