  • rendering causing media to slip back 1 frame

I’m in need of some help with a strange problem and I haven’t been able to find a thread concerning this issue. We’re using FCP 5.0.4 with DVCproHD sequence, 720 23.98 footage from HVX P2 card.
The problem: One of my editors has noticed that everytime he renders an affect such as a 3-way color correction, the media being rendered will slip back by 1 frame.

    Example:
If the media has no handles it will actually create 1 frame of black because it slips and there’s nothing underneath it. This obviously creates an issue when editing the media together, especially if one clip is at its end right at the cut point between two clips. When the color correction is rendered, instead of a smooth cut between the two clips, we are left with a 1 frame black between them.

If anyone has come across this issue and knows what’s going on please be in touch.
    Thank you in advance.
    James.

Yes…this was a bug with footage imported with FCP 5.0.4. That is the FIRST version to support P2, so there was bound to be something.

The solution is to upgrade to FCP 5.1.1 (unsure how you will do that as to do that you needed to send in your FCP 5 disks and Apple would send you new ones) or FCP 6 and reimport.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly Shane. So you’ve see or heard of this before and the only solution is to upgrade. That sucks.
I actually have access to a machine that has FCP 5.1.4, I think it’s .4, anyway, if I re-import the footage through my system, then transfer the mov’s to my editors capture scratch, delete the old files and reconnect, would that solve the issue?
    James.
