  • Rendering animation using Global illumination…is it wise

    Hi all

Is it wise to use global illumination as my main source of light to light my scene within my animation? I know this will up my rendering time. My problem is that no matter how hard i try i can not seem to achieve the same effect without it. My knowledge in lighting a scene is limited, and i have tried many tutorials.

Below is the link of my jpg image im using for reference. Any advice is appreciated on lighting a scene like this or othereise.

    Thanks

It sort of depends on the size and complexity of your scene. There’s a limitation with Cinema’s GI rendering that causes render times to increase geometrically with large, complex scenes. It happens because the renderer keeps accumulating sampling points until the database becomes so large that it can’t be sorted efficiently. The only solution is to stop the render and restart it again, which can be a pain. It’s very scene dependant, so I would suggest that you give it a try and see how it goes. If it bogs down you can bake your GI solution.

Thanks very much Adam. I’ll give is a shot. My scene only contains 3 simple geometric shapes, but there is a point on the timeline when an object shatters. Im guessing that will be the true test.

I will give it a shot and see where it takes me.

Thanks very much for your help.
