    Hello,

I’m an AE user, but trying to learn C4D to increase my marketability. I’m working on a project right now that is a typical AE 3d scene. A bunch of 2d layers spaced out on the z-axis. But I’m struggling with realisim, and instead of going into photoshop and doing some cloud plates, I want to use this oppty to use C4D and generate some volumetric clouds that I could apply a gentle wind to.

But I’ve searched the cow for clouds and C4D and there is not much info on what I’m looking for. This makes me think it’s very basic.. Sorry!

I just can’t get my head around the environments that are built into C4D. Some have clouds, I can pick different types of clouds, etc, but this is all in an environment. I want to learn how to simplify things, and set a few clouds in motion w/o a background (alpha) and export a 10-20 sec movie of these clouds gently moving. Think of a fog in the valley of mountains. That would be perfect.

Any time I try to manipulate clouds in an environment, they go away and don’t render. I think I’m missing one critical piece as to how clouds are generated and tied to a scene. Can anyone give me some insight as to what objects I need to add to a blank scene to generate just some clouds?

Thanks! Sorry for the newb question. I’ve been using C4D for about 3 months, so I’m not nearly as proficient as I should be. But I’m getting there.

Hi – this might be too late, but if you visit

    https://www.beaucroft.co.uk/clouds.c4d.zip

you can download a file I made recently using volumetric lights. (I didn’t have pyrocluster at the time). The lights are then expelled from an emitter which means you can randomize size, speed etc.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers

WOW! I never in a million years would have thought to create a cloud by creating an emitter of light! To me that seems like genius. This is very helpful. I could animate clouds growing and changing sizes all day now.

Thanks for this. This is perfect.
