Rendering a .mov file in DNxHD (or ProRes) to use in ProTools 2018
Hey everyone!
First time posting here. I’m having a problem where whenever I try to render a .mov file using Avid’s DNxHD codec, Vegas Pro 14 completes rendering in less than a second (the video is one minute long) and doesn’t actually rending a video file. The folder is empty.
ProRes 422 works but when I try to import it into the ProTools project the application just freezes up and crashes.
I tried repairing Avid’s DNxHD codec by reinstalling it but that didn’t work at all. I’m really at a loss here and it’s been a struggle to find a good video format that is compatible with ProTools that doesn’t cause playback issues.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, so your question about what drive I render to definitely helped. I can now render a video in DNxHD by having it render to my main C-drive. The only problem now is that when I try to import my video into ProTools, it still freezes up and crashes. So, here are my render settings for the video in DNxHD:
Frame size: High Definition (1920×1080)
Frame rate: 29.970000
Field order: Upper field first
Pixel aspect ratio: 1.000
Video format: Avid DNxHD Codec
Compressed depth: 32 bpp color
Quality: High 100%Audio:
None/UncheckedAvid DNxHD Codec Settings:
Color Levels: 709
Alpha: None
Resolutions: 1080p/29.97 DNxHD 100 8-bitRendered out, it plays just fine in Quicktime player but when I try to bring the video into ProTools everything goes haywire.

Hmm, is your footage progressive or interlaced ?
If your footage is progressive – set Field order: None

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted. Changed it to None (Progressive) and still got the same result. Now I’m starting to think this is a problem with ProTools which seems weird cause DNxHD is Avid’s codec so it should work just fine.

I think I found the issue.

So it probably isn’t the render that’s the problem but a Windows-only issue with the new update of ProTools 2018. Uninstalling and reinstalling now to see if that fixes my problem. Fingers crossed!

Yup! That was the fix! Just uninstalling and reinstalling PT 2018. Man, that was an annoying ride lol.
