  • Rendering a 1080p project to DVD

Posted by Karen on February 18, 2014 at 5:05 pm

I hope someone can help. I have a project shot in 1080p. I’m working on a pc with Vegas 12 and have edited the project. It has multiple files that are about 3 min. each – making the total project length about 1 1/2 hours.

I need to deliver the project to the client in a DVD and via youtube. The 1080p render for youtube works fine (unlike the DVD project these are not lumped together but are separate uploades) but I cannot seem to get any good looking results trying to render the 1080p files using the DVDA preset for mpeg2. It looks very bad – pixalated, fuzzy, just plain terrible. I’ve tried converting the file to NTSC Widescreen 720×480 but it is still awful.

Even renders in 1080p format will often freeze at various points causing non response from vegas and task manager end process. I’v shut down GPU acceleration and the render goes faster but still looks like crap.

    Any Advice???

I’m running a quad core i7/16 gb ram, 64 bit, windows 8 system – nvidia geforce gtx 680. I’ve never had trouble before…

    Wait…

1.Do you want to write 1080p in 1080p into DVDs?

First of all, convert the video to 720×576 using Handbrake.
Download Nero(The Trial) and use it to burn the DVD,It won’t lose much quality.
Or you could try “DVD Architect” from Sony.

    Thank You for responding.

I was under the impression that you could not write 1080p to DVD.

I need to create a standard definition DVD from the 1080p edit. The client is ordering dvd’s for distribution and they do not have BlueRay Players…The source video is 1080p AVCHD. When I have changed the project properties (In Vegas)to SD 720×480 and rendered to DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen the renders never work and always hang/freeze at various placing forcing a task manager end program.

I’ve rebooted, but it never works. I’ve even used other dvd (AVS Converter 8) software to convert from 1080p to 720×480 SD and it still looks very bad. I already have Handbreak…but thought that since it did not work with AVS that it would not work with Handbreak.

Clearly I must be doing something wrong…but I do not know what that is.

I’ve been running this system for about a year and have never had this issue…SD or HD video has always been fine. Can the graphic card be an issue?

DVD is *by definition* 720×480 pixels. After viewing it in 1080, 720 will look worse.

Give AppGeeker DVD Creator a go,I have beening using it for years, it is a all in one stop.

You don’t need to convert the file from 1080p to 720p, the utility can automatically convert the video and then burn onto DVD for you.

    https://www.appgeeker.com/convert/burn-mts-to-dvd.html

If you try it, tell me how is the output quality of DVD video.
