Rendering
Good Morning.
I wish I could delete my first post because it doesn’t rely my intent so lets start over.
There are so many rendering settings in Vegas Movie Studio Platimum and because I am new to all this, I am having problems understaning. I have searched the forums and found many good answers, but not the ones I am looking for so I am hopeful that you can assist me. I understand making the DVD part, actually that is pretty easy. Shoot in HD, Select make a movie and let the DVD program do the rest as widescreen.Lots of different options that are fun to play around with in the FX part. The finsihed product comes out nice. But, to render the HD video into something a computer can see in HD and project onto a jumboton, or projection system is another story. Is it best to render HD as AVI, WMV, MOV or MPEG-2? and why? I have heard and read here in the forums different opinions, mostly suggusting WMV as the best for computer and projection, but others say no use AVI. Sorry to be asking such a basic question, but I am trying to figure this out and reading and research has completly confused me into a blob of jelly.

I use WMVHD or Mpeg 2 HD, AVI in HD wont play on any computer I’ve ever used. AVIHD is for if you need to import to Vegas or other NLE for further editing. Try the WMV 8 mbps HD setting, It’s looks good on HDTVs. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

Thank you very much for your time. It is appriciated thats for sure. I did that and it looks great,added a little warmth with the FX stuff and it looks like a movie. I would assume (rightly or not) that when shown on a projector 9ft by 9ft screen, the system would show it letterbox? or will it strech it out and make people look thin. (My wife would probably like that) :), but I would like to avoid that if possible.

That depends on the projector and the video card in the computer thats playing it. Most consumer projectors under $2000 are not wide screen or even HD. Mitzubushi makes one WD-2000 that’ll do it and looks great. If your ever in Orlando and visit Universal Orlando, checkout the T23D preshow video walls. That’s what’s in there, sourced by a computer playing WMVHD but with a higher bitrate than the 8mbps preset. You can click custom and raise it there.
Another option, if the PJ or computer wont play it wide screen, you can always render it 720 x 480 and letter box it yourself. Of course it wont be in HD. Danny -
Thank you again. So I get the picture that to show in the best quality on this Projector, I should just render in the 720 format and it will not strech people, but at least show full screen on the 9ft by 9ft.
