  • Rendered video breaks up when velocity change applied

Been having trouble with video breaking up on render. Frames tear, appear out of sequence in dissolves, artifacts, and solid color chunks. Determined so far that it only happens on clips that have velocity changes applied. Haven’t tried other effects, like color, brightness, blur etc. Sometimes it happens in the timeline, before rendering, but if I shut down and re-start, the problem goes away. I’ve been working with Vegas since V7, and now on 15, but never had this problem. Wonder if I should go back to V13, which worked great for years. Working with SSDs on I-7 and 16gb RAM in win7.

Hi Robert, have you tried turning your GPU to ‘Off’ in Preferences > Video tab, ‘GPU acceleration of video processing’. It sounds like your GPU is struggling with the combination of effects. You could also, if you haven’t already render with CPU only. If either of these work, could your system updated your GPU driver? Rolling back the GPU driver is another test, if you are not sure.

    Hi Robert

Have you tried with GPU disabled ? Was there a recent upgrade of the GPU driver ? Any recent changes software/hardware wise ?

    Cheers !

Thanks for the advice. I don’t see an option for ” cpu only”. Also, I set GPU to “off” in preferences, but it required a re-start, and after restart, it re-set to the GPU. When I set it back, I get the notice that a restart was necessary. I haven’t looked at graphic card updates. I think you’re correct that the problem is in the efx, and on a few of the crashes a message flashed saying the AMD card had ceased, and actually crashed the OS requiring a hard shutdown.

Thanks for the advice. Switching the GPU to off didn’t help.
I don’t know how to set render to “CPU only”

Actually the problem started after my upgrade to Vegas 15 from 13. I’ve uninstalled 15 and re-installed it once already.

Figured out the problem was due to bad AMD graphic card drivers. Installed updates and ran fine. Ran better when I switched the Graphic assist to “off.” Thank-you for all the good advice!
