    Hi,

I’ve got a few clips in my timeline that their thumbnail appear as unrenderd at times when opening a project. The clips play fine.

If I try to render, the render window just flashes as the clips are rendered (didn’t need anyway it as they match my sequence and project settings). If I right click on the clips in the timeline or the bin and pull up the Reconnect Media box, it says the clips are online and the option to reconnect isn’t available. I’ve tried changing the thumbnail size to refresh them, but that didn’t do it. I’ve tried putting my left shoe on my right foot and hanging my right shoe off of my left ear, but still no luck.

Any ideas how to get them to appear correctly? It’s not affecting my work, but it’s really annoying.

    Thanks,
    Valerie

    Two things come to mind:

    1) Make sure “Full” (and all others too) are checked in the render menu dropdown and try re-rendering.

    If that doesn’t help, then…

    2) Open the render manager, delete all renders for your particular sequence, and re-render.

    Hi David,

    1) “Make sure “Full” (and all others too) are checked in the render menu dropdown and try re-rendering.”

    – Yes, I have those all checked and no go so…

    2) “Open the render manager, delete all renders for your particular sequence, and re-render.”

    – There weren’t any effects or reason to render in the first place. Just clips in the timeline. Out of 3 clips, first one was UR, then two and now all three. This has happened on three separate occasions and all of the material is the same res. I just tried deleting a clip and then putting it back in the sequence and it’s still unrendered according to the thumbnail, but has a grey render bar and plays fine (still).

All of the media is on an external drive. I’ve tried to start FCP a couple of times without having the drive connected, and it brought up the associated dialogue box. Could that be the cause?

Eventually everything must get rendered because you’re working with a software only system, unlike all the older Avid products you used to work with.

So, it sounds as if your either your render files or the underlying database are corrupt, so don’t resist, delete the render files in the Render Manager, and then re-render the entire sequence.

If that doesn’t work, it’s possible that your only problem is corrupt thumbnail images, which would require that you close FCP and delete the file “Final Cut Pro Thumbnail Cache” before reopening FCP.

Thanks David, deleting the thumbnail cache did it. Looking for ti, I found a nice article describing the files that FCP creates. I’m sure this will come in handy again.

    Thanks again,

    Hello David Roth Weiss,

    I have the same problem as Valerie – Media appears offline but it’s online and rendered;
It happens as my external hard-drive that has all the data on was shut off while connected to the FCP due to electricity fall. SO, now all appears offline. I tried to delete the rendered files and re-render, but that didn’t change a thing. I opened my Thumbnail Cash folder, but the folder is empty, so i can’t even do that.

    Any ideas for me?

    Thank you so much
