  • Render Times 22hrs for 15 minute sequence?

Hi, I’ve had a look at the FAQ’s and the rest of the forum for answers.

I have a 15min sequence with one video clip which has two plugins on it – Magic Bullet Looks and Image Stabilizer.

Sent it to render and says it will take 22hrs… it is rendering bu I am wondering why it is taking so long and if I have done something wrong? – I am a home user, not a pro so please be kind and patient!

    Specs:
2.8GHz or 2.66GHz (cant remember) Intel Core Duo
    4GB Memory
    250gb hard drive @ 7200
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
Final Cut Studio 2 all up to date

    Thank you for your help!

That’s about right. Magic Bullet filters (at least last time I used them) on an Intel Core 2 Duo generally rendered at a rate of an hour per minute of video. I’ve never used the image stabilizer but I would imagine that’s a pretty hefty render too.

To give you an example, grant it, this was on a PC based Core 2 Duo system, rendering out of After Effects as opposed to Final Cut. I render a 45 minute band performance using Magic Bullet’s deartifactor and one of their looks effects. It took about three days.

It sure made the DV footage look killer, but it comes at a cost, being render time.

    Hi Richard,

    Thank you for uor response.

I have had a look at a few settings and the media & filters that I’m using and it seems that the image stabiliser is seriously slowing things down and that’s an understatement!

As it is a nested sequence I’m rendering I decided to cut all the sequences up into smaller sections, select them and render them individually. This seems to be rendering a lot quicker althought when I get the sequence with the image stabiliser it slows down dramatically (1min takes about 30mins to render).

I also noticed that if I just leave the machine to render, when the screen saver goes on and it sits rendering for a few hours the time just goes up and then starts hangining… I checked my system settings and nothing is set to slepp if left for a while although I am rendering to an external HD and this may be the problem?!
