render time to long?
Posted by Randy Rohde on August 20, 2005 at 8:31 pmI have a G5 with 7 gigs of ram and it take FCP5 1 hour to render an uncompresssed 8bit file.

RAM is not the only essential issue here. What is the CPU speed. Single or dual processor? How long is the 8 bit clip? What type of hard drives are you using. Do you have a raid? How many filters have you added to the 8 bit clip. Was the clip original captured as an 8 bit clip or is it being trancoded from the original native codec capture?
All these variables can account for the length of rendering time.
Your question is similar to asking why does my car only get 12 miles to the gallon without telling anyone you have low tire air pressure, carrying 2000 lbs in the back, running the AC at 100%, constantly speeding up and slowing down etc etc.

August 21, 2005 at 11:16 pmUnderstand. It is a 7 min clip not many FX filters and single stream video. By render I mean to render a QT clip (FCP QT) so i can burn a DVD. I have a 2 gig dual processor. This slow render was not always the case. It’s like something was corrupted?
