I need a render template for a TV station that will produce an .MTS file with AVC (Profile-high) and Mpeg-1, Layer-2 Audio. All the specs are as follows.

    Video Codecs Used: AVC
Audio Codecs Used: MPEG-1 Audio layer 2
    File Format: MPEG-TS
    Total Stream BitRate: 11.0 Mbps
    Video Stream # 1
    Codec (Human Name): AVC
    Codec Profile: High@L4.0
    Frame Width: 1 920 pixels
    Frame Height: 1 080 pixels
    Frame Rate: 29.970 fps
    Display Aspect Ratio: 16/9
    Video Standard: NTSC
    Scan Type: MBAFF
    Colorimetry: 4:2:0
Codec Settings {Summary): CABAC / 2 Ref Frames
    Codec Settings (CABAC): Yes
Video Stream BitRate: 9 957 Kbps
    Bit Depth: 24 bits
    Audio Stream # 1
    Codec: MPEG Audio
    Audio Stream BitRate: 256 Kbps
    Audio Stream BitRate Mode: CBR
    Sampling Rate: 48.0 KHz
    Bit Depth: 16 bits

It seems to me quite a few options are either greyed-out or have a drop-down box with only 1 choice. Does anyone know how to customize render templates for to accommodate the specs above?

    Any help is appreciated,

    Jeff

That spec is a strange request. Nobody uses AVC video with MPEG1 audio in an MPEG2 Transport Stream. You usually use MPEG2 video with MPEG1 audio as MPEG-TS or AVC video with AAC or AC3 audio as MP4.

Ask the station what other formats they accepts. See if they accept XDCAM or MXF. They all accept multiple formats.

While you’re at it you might ask them what encoder they suggest you use to make such a non-standard format as AVC video with MPEG2 audio in an MPEG-TS container. I checked Adobe Media Encoder and as soon as you select AVC video it only has options for AAC audio too just Like Vegas. As I said, that spec is very odd.

    Thanks John,

I thought it was kind of odd. But, with the mp4 spec being so loose maybe this was common for them.

As it turns out they are new to HD and, I’m guessing, have not worked out all the kinks.

At least they didn’t require you to send a tape. 😉
