  • Render starts then hangs/stalls indefinitely

Posted by Chris Cummings on April 17, 2008 at 2:13 pm

Anytime I try to render now, C4D suddenly stalls shortly after the render begins. Doesn’t seem to matter rendering Sequences, no multi-pass, QT movies, make preview, etc. I tried letting it run overnight and in the morning, no progress, just stays where it was. Quitting the render gives the spinning beach ball and forces me to force quit.

I’m on an 8 core Mac Pro with 8GB of RAM. Not sure how rendering architecture works, but I’ve tried everything I can think of. It’s a 10 second logo animation, no multi-pass needed. There’s a glow on a light that’s animated, but even turning that off in renders didn’t help.

    Thanks for any help,
    ~C

Have you tried rendering to a different codec? Every once in a while when I try rendering out to certain codecs cinema will refuse to render, changing the codec fixes that for me. The other thing is, if the render created a file make sure you delete it.

Hi Simon, thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately it’s happening with every codec I’ve tried (at least five now). I’m calling Maxon support as they are open now…

    Cheers,

sent the file to Maxon; it’s a bug in both Mac and Win…the current beta for the new version fixes it…don’t have more info yet.
