Render settings or how to import in AE

I used CineForm for rendering between Vegas and After Effects (back when I use to do that). I’m pretty sure you can download the free GoPro Studio and get the CineForm codec which can be used in Vegas Pro. You’ll have to make your own template under Video for Windows but it should work.

You can export a PremierePro project from Vegas Pro which can be opened in After Effects. I can’t imagine it do a very good job since After Effects assumes one track per piece of media and Vegas Pro can have hundreds of events across multiple tracks, but the capability is there if you so choose to use it.

Thank you John! But without the hassel of having to downlaod and create one more template, are you telling me that vegas Pro 13 cannot and doean`t have any suitable setting to render a file and work on it on After effects? hard to believe.

Vegas Pro does not come with a Digital Intermediary format like FCP X does with ProRes 422 if that’s what you are asking. There was a time when Vegas use to ship with CineForm but that relationship has since dissolved.

You can render any file type you want and drop it into After Effects. If you want near lossless quality, you’ll need to download a codec with near lossless quality like CineForm or Avid DNxHD for QuickTime. Vegas Pro does not provide this. Sad but true.

You can simply use the Quicktime Animation format or
the the Quicktime Phot-Jpeg format, which i normally prefer to use!

XAVC-Intra in Vegas could work for a near lossless output if your project is in one the resolutions and frame rates supported by the XAVC templates.

If you’re not going to use a digital intermediary then just use Sony MXF with one of the HD422 1080 50Mbps templates. While not lossless, this will hold up really well going info After Effects. I’m not sure if AE can render it back though.

If you have a workflow that require round-tripping from Vegas to AE and back, you really should invest in a digital intermediary.

The reason I don’t have this problem anymore is because I use Boris RED instead of AE and RED opens directly in Vegas Pro without any rendering. It also loads some (but not all) AE plug-ins. For most of the things I use to use AE for I also use Boris Continuum Complete (BCC9). It adds lights, camera’s, particle effects, deformers, etc to Vegas Pro.
