  • Render settings messed up? Why is my video doing this?

Posted by Steve Eynon on November 29, 2012 at 1:57 pm

I am recording gameplays off of my xbox using the Hauppague HD PVR 2. When I watch the raw video that it creates, I see no issues what so ever.

I’ll drag and drop the video into SVP12 and play it on the storyboard or trimmer, there are no issues what so ever. After I render a video (i’ve tried to render as .mp4 and .wmv) these millisecond screen flickers occurr.

    Examples:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjAYnejatb8

    @ 0:33
    @ 0:47
    @ 0:57 – 0:58
    @ 1:13

These are just a few, my videos have been littered with them. I don’t know what to do to fix it. The raw video is 60fps, and i’ve tried to render in 30 and 60fps. I use “best quality” as my render setting. The project video of 720p matches the render setting of 720p.

Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

The problem could be with the format of your source video. What format are you recording from the HD PVR? I find that AVCHD .TS files work best with Vegas Pro.

Well, I made a real quick test video, but in that format, sound didn’t transfer. Do I need to do anything special for this?

That video is private so I can’t watch it.

There is nothing special about transferring the audio of a .TS file. I do it all the time. Do you have any codec packs installed like K-Lite? Those can mess up Vegas and cause it not to read files properly.

Not that i’m aware of. Aside from things like anti-virus, games, and some other misc. programs, I don’t have much on this computer. Here is vegas after I just put a TS file into it.

If you want, I can go over all my render setting and HD PVR settings.

Did you install a CODEC pack such as K-lite?

I don’t think so. How can I check? My source video does have audio however. I just recorded another minute of footage, played it in windows media player and it has sound. Immediately put it in vegas, no sound.

Go to control panel, programs and features and see if K-lite or any other CODEC pack is installed. If so, remove it/them as they upset Vegas.

Before you do, download and install gspot and inspect the file. It will tell you what CODECs were used to create the file and whether the CODECs to read the file are present/installed on your system. You can then selectively install the required missing CODEC. Be advised that this does not always work. I once was given an AVI file that used the 0xfffe Wave Format Extensible CODEC, which I selectively installed, but Vegas still did not read the audio from it. From what I’ve been told, 0xfffe should only be used for 5.1 surround audio headers. Vegas (and many other programs) are not expecting to see this in a stereo audio stream.

I don’t have K-Lite. I’m not familiar at all with CODECs so I didn’t know it would be as simple to remove as that. Sorry about the dumb question.

I downloaded gspot like you suggested and used it for the TS source video. I have no be honest though, I have no idea what i’m looking at when it shows all the video/audio CODECs. How would I know if one is missing and any good sites that you recommend where I could download the necessary one?
