    Dear Video Gods,

Please HELP!!! I am at a complete loss!!

I am wondering if anyone can tell me what render settings I should be using for my video project that I need to get to the web (youtube).

The video is for a school that works with macs only so I am trying to render out an MOV file that is small (320×240) and clear but has a small file size.

Is this possible in Sony Vegas???

I have split the project into 3 chapters (it is 1. hr 15 Minutes in duration) to make downloading from Youtube easier for the parents of the students… However the combined video renders are 7.5 gig – Way too big for what we require.

It has titles and some visual overlays that the presenter refers to during the clip..

So what should I do? Delete the project and start over in iMovie? Or persist with Sony Vegas – I am on Version 11 Build 701.

The staff at the school tell me that iMovie will press out a render that is highly sharp and low file size – I am loathed to believe that claim – however I am happy to be proved otherwise or for someone to suggest how it can be done in Sony Vegas.

    Ta

    David

[David Jackson] “I am wondering if anyone can tell me what render settings I should be using for my video project that I need to get to the web (youtube).”

Render using MainConcept AVC using one the Internet … templates. That’s what they are for (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)

[David Jackson] “The video is for a school that works with macs only so I am trying to render out an MOV file that is small (320×240) and clear but has a small file size. “

Why would you render it small? YouTube supports HD. 320×240 will look HORRIBLE on YouTube next to all the HD footage. Why not render to at least 1280×720 HD?

[David Jackson] “Is this possible in Sony Vegas???”

Rename the .mp4 file to .mov and give it to the school. In fact, there is no need to even do this. All Mac’s can play .mp4 files.

Create three regions on the timeline, one for each chapter. Then make a timeline selection for the first region and render using the Internet 360p widescreen template and make sure that you check the Render loop region only option. Then select the next region and render again. This will allow you to render in separate chapters. Each chapter should be about 150MB using that template. (but I’m telling you that’s too small for YouTube in 2013)

You could render to QuickTime from Vegas but an MP4 file will be higher quality. It’s the same codec that iMovie would be using on a Mac. I just question why you want the frame size to only be 320×240. That is tiny.

    Thanks John

    Excellent advice as usual.

David ending up using the Vegasaur plug-in and the client was extremely happy the results. The 320×240 frame size was a client requirement.

Understood. Glad you got something they liked.
