Hi, I need some expert advice please.

What are the best render settings for my footage, which is:
    SD 720 x 576 25fps PAL 4:3 (Australia). Shot in 2005.

I will use DVD Architect. It will be shown on widescreen TV.

I am going to have black pillars on either side of footage as I don’t want to stretch or crop.

Can I render to Blu Ray or is DVD my only option?

I understand that Blu Ray won’t improve quality of SD but there will be more space on the blu ray disk. I own a Blu Ray player.

My project properties are as follows:
    Template: PAL DV (720 x 576, 25.000 fps)
    Field Order: Lower
    Pixel Format: 8 bit
    Render Quality: Best
    Motion Blue: Gaussian
    Deinterlace method: Blend

    AUDIO
    Bus Mode: Stereo
    Stereo Busses: 0
    Sample Rate 44,100
    Bit Depth: 16
    Resample and Stretch Quality: Best

Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Jane

Actually a BluRay disk will be slightly better looking than a DVD. Because you have more room, you don’t have to compress as much and you enjoy a higher bitrate. Compression and lower bitrate for a DVD compromises the overall quality.

Just find a DVDA template in the Main Concept section of the “Render As” dialog. If you find one with the = next to it, then it’s a match for your media and will be the best to use. Otherwise, pick one that is the closest to your media.

Don’t forget the AC3 audio file.

Hi Steve, thanks for your response.

    I going to use;
    MainConcept MPEG 2
TEMPLATE: DVD Architect PAL video stream

When I eventually burn to blu ray in DVD Architect, what bit rate should I use?

More questions to follow no doubt. I really appreciate your advice Steve.

I rarely do BluRay, and only one client in the past few years have requested it. You don’t say how long the video is, but for most SD projects, just use the defaults.

    It is 2 hours long.

Start with the defaults. If the resulting iso file is under 23098.0 Mb then it will fit.
