    Hey All:

    FCP 6.0.5
    SD

Usually when I work with long-form projects I break them up into sequences, render the sequences – then drag each sequence file to a MASTER timeline for the overall project.

This time the render does not stay and is RED when I drag it into the timeline and is mix-down. I know I’ve done it this way before. Why do I have to re-render these sequences once I bring it into a new timeline?

I also tried rendering the sequences all down together, but I got an error: unknown filename? Not sure what that’s about either. Any and all help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does the master Sequence exactly match the nested sequences?

I am pretty sure it matches. All I am doing is creating a new sequence > titling the sequence > and then dragging and dropping the sequence icon from the browser into the timeline.

It has been a tiring few weeks, am I missing something minor, because I have never had this issue before. Please advice. Thanks!

[James Haefner] “I am pretty sure it matches. All I am doing is creating a new sequence > titling the sequence > and then dragging and dropping the sequence icon from the browser into the timeline. “

It’s easy enough to check. Just go to Sequence > Settings on both sequences.

Not matching is the only thing I can think of that would cause this to happen.

    Thanks Walter,

the culprit, an opening “Animation” slate I am putting at the head & end of the sequence. Therefore, being the first thing changing the sequence settings.

Sometimes its the littlest things… thanks

    Hey Walter:

I am not out of the woods yet.. appreciate the feedback

While exporting my sequence as QT self-contained – I am receiving the following –

    File Error: illegal name

what is this? When I went to check my Sequence settings again I also realized it set as

720X480 NTSC DV (3:2)….. this isn’t right for an SD output is it? Shouldn’t it be 4:3? I am confused because I never changed these settings. In the past everything went smooth.

720X480 NTSC DV (3:2) is correct. Do the math 720×480 is not 4:3. 640×480 is 4:3. But then DV doesn’t use square pixels.

Are you rendering everything to full before you export? When does the error occur? What is the file name?

    All the best,

    Tom
