Render Queue Analysis
Hi,
Does anyone know of a script or a method by which one would be able to analyse the contents of the render queue before the render is started to check for problems that might cause a render to fail? In particular, I would really like it if AE could look at the amount of RAM and virtual memory available then look at the size of the comps to see if there is likely to be a situation where the renderer will run out of memory and abort.
I have currently been working on some animations that I have had to render overnight and it is very frustrating to log into my computer when I get home, only to find the render has aborted. Purging everything doesn’t always ensure a full render. My work flow for dealing with this has been to re-boot the computer to make sure there are no extra programs running in the background that I don’t know about. This seems to work best, but it doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.
It would also be useful if the render engine on a remote machine could check the file for missing effects or footage and politely warn the user. (In a recent case, my remote renderer didn’t have a texture in Invigorator that existed on the main computer and so just rendered the element without the texture.) When there is a missing font, the render engine aborts and complains, but will happily restart the render once the font has been installed.
Also with that in mind, if anyone has some suggestions on work flow with the command line renderer for restarting aborted jobs while logged in via ssh, I’d like to hear them.
Thanks,
Lars
