I’ve got a comp that I want to render out in two parts. Is it possible to set the work area for the first part, add it to the render queue, move the work area to the second part, add that to the render queue, and then send them both out?

Seems like the render queue only pays attention to the current work area. Which would mean if I move the work area to the second part of my animation, BOTH renders from the queue will look at that work area. Is that right?

I’m afraid to try it because the renders are taking about an hour each.

    Muchas gracias!

As an intended timesaver, when you add a comp to your render queue it will automatically adjust the render range to your current work settings. However, you’re free to change this in your Render Setting “start” and “end”.

Big timesaver: CMD-SHFT-D will duplicate a selected item in the render queue AND give it the same output name. (which saves you from re-navigating down to the preferred folder for your render). CMD-M your comp to drop it into your render queue, set your filename, settings, etc. CMD-SHFT-D to duplicate it and only change your output name and your “start” and “end” to have a second movie on a different part of your sequence.

If you’re doing more than a couple, you might find it easier to just drop “CompA” into “MasterForDupesComp”, duplicate “MasterForDupesComp” 10 times and set each of them to the preferred work area, and drop them all into the queue as individuals. You’ll have 10 shells that each render different parts, but all reference the same “CompA”.

    Thanks, man! Huge time saver!

Your demo reel is amazing. I’ve seen your work on the Truth Project. It’s cool to watch a demo reel and be like, “Hey, I’ve seen that!” Thanks again.

    Thanks!
…and yes, I’m still waiting for The Great Divorce to be made into a motion picture.
