Ok. I’ve got two computers, both with After Effects 7.0 pro on them. And here is the magical conclusion I keep stumbling upon.

The weaker (laptop) machine…is out performing the stronger machine when rendering. Not nearly as many image buffer/memory errors. Not even close.

    Here is the breakdown:
    Desktop:
Dell Dual Xeon 2.40GHZ – Windows XP professional, Version 2002 – service pack 2 – recently reformatted
    2.00 gigs of ram

    Laptop:
Fujitsu – Windows XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002 – Service Pack 2
    INtel Pentium M – 1.86Ghz
    1 gig of ram

Any ideas on what could be tweaked to get the dual xeon up to snuff? Cuz holy frustrating.

Yeah, I sure did. In fact, I kept getting 320X240 image buffer errors on the desktop…un plugged the external drive, plugged it into the lap top – rendered the same exact file and it made it through fine. WITH other applications (AVG free edition) running in the background – and without a restart.

Even with a restart and all programs shut down on the desktop it didn’t make it through. Something to do with the video card possibly? I’m running a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 on the desktop and the lap top has an ATI Mobility Radeon X600.
