  • Render problem? Issue with cross dissolves; making clips jump back and forth

Posted by Kay Es on May 20, 2009 at 7:36 am

    Hello all,

I am having an issue with what appears to be a rendering problem, because this doesn’t happen until my clips are all rendered.

I am currenly working on a wedding video, using previously recorded .mov files. I am trying to make my clips cross-dissolve, but as soon as the clip renders, the clip doesn’t replay correctly. What happens is that the clip will do its dissolve into the next clip, but then (for a split second) replays the clip that was being cross-dissolved. So, for example, I have a crowd shot dissolving into 2 people walking down the aisle, and when the dissolve ends, the people seem to “retrace their steps,” and appear a few paces back, and then re-walk down the aisle.

I am not sure what to do to prevent this from happening, but I have a few more details that may narrow down as to what the problem is, and why I think it may have to do with rendering.

In the area of the timeline that usually turns red when a clip needs rendering, a small white dash appears above the problematic part of my video, i.e. where the video “jumps,” (this is what I have come to call the back-tracking). I have smooth-cam on all of my clips, so that may be some of the problem in rendering. Also, I had accidentally moved all of the render files to a different location, so when prompted for them upon opening the project, I chose the new location, and the problem seemed to go away momentarily. Then, though, it needed to “re-analyze” the clips, and after 3 hours of analysis, the problem returned. My settings are on unlimited RT. ALSO, I tried just exporting the video to see if it would just fix itself, and in the exported copy it did the little jumps as well.

I am working on a deadline and I am driving myself crazy, so all of your help is much appreciated.
Do you have any suggestions or solutions?

    Sincerely,
    Kyle

What are your sequence’s settings? HDV? DV??

Might try baking the video… i.e., export the clips which show the problem as self contained movies, then cut them back in.

Deleting the “Constant Frames” renders may solve this problem.

How does one delete the constant frames?

Also, the settings are in HD, and I have tried exporting and re-importing, but the same problem occurs

Excuse my last post, I tried deleting the constant frames and still I have no luck.
Do you think it may be render settings or something?

    Hi Kyle,
I really don’t know what to suggest you.
Try re-render some of the transitions.
