my initial feeling is that this may be a ram cache clearing problem…. if it is, there are a few things you might try.
- choose edit>purge>all to manually clear the ram cache just prior to rendering.
- if that doesn’t help, you can set ae to purge the cache at set intervals. to do this, hold the shift key down and select preferences>general. then select the preference drop down menu from that window, and select the ‘secret’ pref. set the ‘purge every xx frames’ to a value less than the frame number where the crash occurred. so, if it crashed at frame 45, try a setting of 30. this may slow the render down, but it often helps to get through a render. n ote, to change the setting back, just delete the value.
- still no love… try shutting down for 30 seconds, then rebooting. it seems so simple, but it often helps when ae goes really wacky.
a question i should have asked first, does this occur on all renders or just this particular comp or project? if it is just this particular comp, you may have a bad effect. i’ve had problems before, particularly with an older project in a newer version of ae that i finally tracked to an old effect. i remember once, i was able to just update the effect and everything was ok, another time i had to redo the effect’s settings in the newer effect to get it to work properly.
yet another question, have you tried rendering to another codec or format? if you are rendering to avi, try a quicktime or image sequence to see if that has any effect.
