Any idea on what’s going on here? I normally work with Vegas Pro 9, but I created and rendered out a small project in VP10, my finished Render to MPEG 2 is playing back a little choppy in places? I can’t burn it to dvd looking like this, over a 5min clip it’s had a glitch in at least 2 places.

I want to get a clean render as before, but I can’t think of what might be going on here, this is happening on both 32bit and 64bit mode? anyone came across this yet? I’ve tried the same thing on another small project with the same results, it’s putting me off editing any of my more serious work in VP10.

Are you sure it’s the video that’s choppy and not just playback from your PC? Try burning a DVD and see what you get.

If it’s choppy on the DVD, then see if it’s choppy on the timeline when you use RAM preview (Shift+B).

    Hi john,

Thanks for answering, I appreciate your expertises in helping solve my issue, it’s on the clip I did burn a test dvd, funny it’s only happening when I render out to an MPEG2 file, I rendered out to an MP4 file for vimeo and that was fine, but I can’t render out a decent file for DVD, I’ve never had anything like this happen before on previous versions of vegas, I even copied the timeline into a new fresh project in vegas but still no luck with my finished renders? puzzled (?)

Using the RAM preview (Shift+B) on my project only managed to let me preview a few seconds of my project, when I try to Dynamic RAM preview a larger selection the process stops (?)

I’ve got 12 gigs of RAM, and the Max available in my vegas preferences is 11255mb, I increased the default setting to almost half my RAM available to see if it would make a difference, only managed to give me about 38secs of full preview, the project is only 5mins long.

This doesn’t have any affect on my rendering anyway does it?

What could be causing my issues?

    My System Specs:
    Windows 7 Pro 64bit
    CPU i7 X980 3.33GHz
    RAM 12 GB
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800
    Sony Vegas Pro 10e (build 738) 64bit

The fact that you can render fine to MP4 rules out any problem from the timeline.

Did you use one of the DVD Architect templates?

How high is the bit rate on the MPEG2 file? (Perhaps it’s choppy because it’s too high)

    Hi John,

I did use a DVD Architect template, i’m in the UK so i’m using Pal Widescreen template, i’ve tried the following bit rate settings:

    Variable rate – Max 9,800,00 Avg 6,000,000, Min 192,00

Have also tried at the default setting with Max set at 9,500,00 – footage didn’t look as clean but the glitches were still there anyway

Try using a bit-rate no higher than 8,000,000. If it’s still choppy then I can’t imagine what’s causing it.

    Hi John,

I did another test at 8,000,000, it was still the same 🙁 I’ll have another go and try an even lower setting,

It’s very frustrating not knowing how to address this issue, it’s even more anoying to see that it’s happening in both my 32 & 64bit versions of VP10, I’m at a total loss here, have no idea what to try next, never had this happen in the past with VP8 or 9 even when rendering out higher bit rates like 9,800,000.

    Any other ideas?

Interesting problem. What format video files are you editing?

    Hi Phil,

I’m editing files from a Sony EX1 camera in their native MP4 format, I would normally convert the files using Sony clip browser to MXF, but I’ve had problems with the stability of VP10 using a large quantity of these, with the software crashing out etc.. I did report it to Sony, had to go back to editing my projects in previous versions of Vegas as they work wonderfully with the MXF files, I’ve owned VP10 since release but haven’t used it much due to them issues

Curiouser and curiouser… but thereby hangs a tale. I am using 10d, Windows 7 pro, 8GB RAM and an EX3, and import hundreds of MXF files into a project and never have issues with them.
Have you set Vegas to match the format you recorded? (Grabbing at straws).
Have you added third party codecs?
