    ******BUG******
Concise problem statement: for after effects, premiere pro and encore CS4 Rendering m2ts (avchd) video files…when i look at the rendered video no matter what format it skips…back and forward. … do only way it doesn’t do this is when i convert it to another format on a software that converts m2ts files….but i want to edit the video as a m2ts file with having to worry about rendering it and ideo skipping again. Less converting to do…

I use a sony hdr-xr520v…its new but i heard MANY people have the same issue with other cameras that have m2ts (avchd) videos… PLEASE FIX 🙁

    thanks 🙂

    Hi Dave,

I read this post and wondering if you can shed some light on which converter you suggest for converting .MTS. I bought the Sony SR11 and love it but my pc is just not capable of editing HD. So I’m using multiple converters and they seem to be clear but every 3 seconds jump or skip a couple of frames.

    I’m a novice.

    I have Adobe Premier CS4
    And Sony Vegas.

    Regards,
    Stephen

Dave, I think I just fell in love with you sir. I have been racking my brains trying to figure out why this was happening to my files in after effects. I have a Sony HDR SR11 and the m2ts (You only wrote m2t but I assume you meant m2ts)codecs import fine, but when I render out I get the tell tale skips.

And even if AE does support AVCHD, the m2ts files from my camera are doing exactly what you say they are.

This also happens when I use dynamic link and render out using adobe media encoder via Premiere Pro BUT it does not happen if I use dynamic link and I render that file out of After Effects – at least is has not happened yet.

So, if I have the raw m2ts files from my camera’s HDD you are saying I will need to convert them to keep AE from freaking out and making those annoying skips.

Do you have any suggestions as to how I would convert them? By that I mean a way that wouldn’t cause me to loose quality.

This seems like a terrible step to have to go through though to use my camera’s files in AE

It seems this is with a lot of HD footage if this happens to h.264 and m2ts etc

Would it be better to cut and render from another program or would it be better to purchase an AVCHD conversion program?

Did you ever find a solution for this?!

The same thing is happening to me!! Just tried rendering a 5 minute composition of just color correction i did in After Effects. When i put it to render, AE will render about 15 – 20 frames quickly, then stop for minutes, then render the following 15 – 20 quickly, then stop and so on … and in parts of the render, the video skips back and forth.

My footage is AVCHD native, coming from a Canon HF11 and stored in a 2TB HD connected through firewire.

I don’t want to have to convert every single file i want to use in order to get after effects or media encoder or premiere to be able to render the files without skipping back and forth like you mentioned; that would not be time efficient. I tried using Dynamic Link between Premiere and AE and it just takes forever as well.

I converted my footage to an uncompressed Quicktime .mov, but my result ended up with a highly interlaced video. I just wish AE would just render .m2ts files without any problem.

If anyone has the solution for this PLEASE HELP. I’m running out of time …

    THANK YOU!!

Yeah, the solution is to convert the files. (Unfortunately)
What David says is correct. My issue is that AE doesn’t work well with the raw footage from my camera. I imagine part of your issue is the same.
