Render issues – File too big

Interesting. Strange but interesting.
I use Mark’s as well and when I entered your numbers, I got the following rates which are less than yours.

Rick is using Dolby 5.1 audio which is 448 kb/s which is a lot higher than 192 kb/s of Dolby 1.0 🙂

Rick, it’s curious that the file is over 5.3 GB, and DVDA quite correctly refuses it. It should be close to 4.3 GB as per Mark’s calculator. Are you following the settings in the calculator exactly?

Are you then using AC-3 instead of PCM audio in DVDA?

I have tried it with Dolby stereo ac3 and Dolby 5.1 .ac3.

I think I ‘may’ have found the answer … running another Render to check – will report back.

OK … I found an issue .. when I looked at Render with Media Info it was too long (time wise)

Traced that down to fact I had a spurious marker out at 3.5 Hrs … so was rendering 3.5 nor 1.55

So run it again first off audio is run at Dolby stereo ac3 192 Kb … gives file of 160,165Kb
Entered in Marks Bit Rate Calculator
Selected MainConcept DVD Architect PAL Widescreen
Set to VBR 2 pass and entered the Calculator settings – (no audio stream)
Settings are as shown:

Rendered and results in Video file size 4,347,808 Kb

Audio + Video = 4,507,973 Kb

So we are better as no longer 6Gb … but when I try to put this into DVD Architect it again gives me an ‘oversize error File size of 4.8Gb‘

So back to same issues why does DVD architect claim, this to be oversized ?
No menus or anything else being added.

The whole point of using DVD Calculator was to ensure it would fit with 5% safety margin.

I just realized why your numbers are different than mine (i.e. higher).
Click the Settings box in the lower left corner of the calculator.
Now click the 1 kilobit = 1024 bits option as shown below. I can’t remember what the rationale was for choosing this setting but it always works for me.
My guess is that using the slightly lower numbers will finally worj for you.

BTW, there are times that DVDA will say that the file size is too large even though you know that you’re under the limit. If that happens, ignore the warning and DVDA will happily prepare your DVD for you 🙂

Mike … I’m confused.

The only reason I set it to 1000 is because that is what you told me I should use as settings in the post of 2 weeks ago

Click 1 Kilobit = 1000 bits.

Rick, my apologies as that’s not what I meant to type.
I went back through several of my old posts on here and I always recommended setting that value to 1024.
I’ve tried searching a few Vegas forums to find out why you set it to 1024 instead of 1000 but came up empty. If I find the answer, I’ll post it here.
I checked my settings at work and at home and both are set to 1024.
