I have a 4×2.5 PowerPC G5 that I use for Final Cut. I have a 1TB external hard drive for storage. I’m looking into buying an internal SATA drive for rendering. So basically I’d have

    Original system hard drive
    External for Storage
    SATA internal for Rendering.

My question is whether I should just put the render files on the SATA? Nothing else on there? Will it be slow to use the system drive to run Final Cut but render on the SATA? I’m thinking SSD, since they seem to be the Usain Bolt of hard drives.

    Thanks,
    Alec

I keep my render files and media files on the same drive. There is no issue doing so…unless you are running low on storage. In which case, that is a fine solution.

No. This is how you are supposed to do things. FCP on OS drive, media and renders on a separate drive. Normal operation.

Yeah, but kinda expensive for this really. Unless you are keeping both REnder and media files on that drive, you won’t see any speed boost.

If you want to add more internal drives to your system, you should check out the G5 Jive.
