    Mike.. are you using XA10?

I think for those of us who use the XA10, we need input from someone familiar with the specs on the cam. This cam is different than all others. Its so simple, yet many unknown tweaks to be tweaked by tweakers.

Yes I am using the XA10, as well as a Vixia M500 too. I did several tests earlier and before I even dropped the footage into the computer, I could see on the LCD screen that the 60i was noticeably darker and less vibrant than the PF30. Why, I have no idea; just reporting my discovery 🙂

Doesn’t your XA10 automatically shoot at 30FP? I assumed it did. I assume mine does. holy crap-o-la! The 30fp option is the same as 30fps right?
oh, Are you using it for broadcast or net?

I’m not sure what you mean by “automatically” as the frame rate is simply an option among many in the Menu. As far as the technical bits about the 30fps, I’m not sure. Vegas shows it as 29.97 interlaced when you click the match properties to media button.

    Hi,

Sometimes I use an XA10 as a secondary camera. I always use it in progressive mode, however Vegas did not detect for me it as progressive, thus applied deinterlace.
I just told vegas that it IS progressive via media properties.
This is not the only one case, few times I created screen captures with Lagarith codec. Those were detected by Vegas as interlaced too (which is obviously wrong).
Another thing is when the project contains some really interlaced footage. In this case I used to use Yadif deinterlacer, it gives way much better result than Vegas builtin deinterlace. When I use Yadif, I do it as the first media FX applied to the footage, and also make sure to tell Vegas the “lie”, it’s progressive. Otherwise Vegas would deinterlace it again…

It’s probably not that Vegas reads the file wrong but that Canon labels its header ‘incorrectly’. The Manual of my Canon HFG10 states that “25fps progressive is recorded as 50i”. Probably this irritating habit of Canon’s is carried through to their bigger pro cameras.
